Recovery Stories
At The Physio Box, we’re passionate about helping people get back to doing what they love – pain-free and with confidence. Whether you’re recovering from a sports injury, managing chronic pain, or bouncing back from surgery, these stories show what’s possible with expert care and a personalised approach.
These are real stories from our clients, each with their own challenges and triumphs. We hope they inspire you and show that you’re not alone – and that the right treatment really can make all the difference.
From Persistent Shoulder Pain to National-Level Boxing
AJ’s story – Amateur Boxer
AJ, a dedicated amateur boxer, came to us after years of struggling with shoulder pain. It affected everything – his performance in the ring, his training routine, even day-to-day overhead movements. Despite seeing multiple professionals (physios, consultants, sports doctors), nothing gave him lasting relief.
He was referred to us by a friend, and during his first session, we carried out a comprehensive assessment. We discovered movement pattern dysfunctions that were irritating his rotator cuff – something previous assessments had missed.
We built a targeted rehab plan that included:
- Manual therapy to reduce joint stiffness
- Electrotherapy to calm the inflammation
- Strengthening exercises to improve shoulder mechanics
AJ committed fully to the plan. Over time, he made an incredible recovery – and returned to the ring, performing at national level. His passion is back, and so is his confidence.
One Session to Freedom from Upper Back Pain
Helen’s story – Fitness Enthusiast
Helen came to us frustrated by a sharp, nagging upper back pain that wrapped around her ribs and made breathing during training sessions difficult. It was starting to impact her sleep and mental wellbeing.
Through a thorough assessment, we pinpointed the issue: inflammation at the junction of her ribs and spine – a spot often overlooked. After one targeted treatment session using hands-on techniques and specific mobility work, Helen left pain-free.
She was back to her regular training schedule the very next day.
Solving a 2-Year Mystery: Running Again After Plantar Fasciitis
Mathew’s story – Avid Runner
Mathew was stuck in a 2-year cycle of plantar fasciitis. He’d seen everyone – podiatrists, physios, doctors. Each offered something different, but nothing stuck. Running 5K would set the pain off again, every time.
We designed a fully tailored program, including:
- Foot and toe mobility drills
- Shockwave therapy
- Acupuncture for pain relief
- Manual therapy for tissue release
She was back to her regular training schedule the very next day.
From Ankle Boot to Full Recovery
Molly’s story – Office Worker & Weekend Hiker
Molly initially thought she had a routine ankle sprain. But after weeks of rest, elevation, and an ankle boot, things weren’t improving. In fact, they were getting worse. Her GP had advised her to stop weight-bearing activities for six weeks – but this led to weakness, stiffness, and lack of confidence in her ankle.
When she came to us, she was struggling to walk properly, let alone get back to hiking. We immediately set her on a progressive plan focused on:
- Strengthening her ankle and lower leg muscles
- Restoring full range of motion
- Gradually reintroducing weight-bearing activities
Overcoming Reinjury After ACL Surgery
Felix’s story – Footballer
While travelling in Thailand, Felix suffered a serious motorbike accident and tore his ACL and meniscus. After surgery and initial rehab elsewhere, he returned to sport – but reinjured the same knee shortly after.
He was disheartened, anxious, and unsure if he’d ever get back to full fitness.
When he came to us, we focused on what had been missed before: functional movement, strength asymmetries, and poor core stability. His rehab program included:
- Strength work for quads, glutes, and calves
- Balance and proprioception training
- Sport-specific drills to rebuild agility and confidence
“You’ll Never Run Again”- But Orla Did
Orla’s story – Determined Runner
After foot surgery, Orla was told she’d likely never run again. She arrived at The Physio Box in pain, frustrated, and unsure what to do next. Even walking caused discomfort, and her confidence was low.
Our assessment revealed compensations throughout her entire movement chain—from ankle to hips—which were contributing to her pain. We designed a plan that combined:
- Manual therapy and electrotherapy
- Strength training and mobility drills
- A gradual running return program
